And I began to realize that the comic book was the perfect symbol to obsess on, because I’ve grown to think I’m well enough read in prose to do what I want to do with it and not so much in poetry. Meaning, although I say “poet” as describer, I do both, and have been doing the other one longer. And the comic, for me, is an image of both. The writers create scripts that could stand in for prose while the artists appear to look at their work more like I do poetry. Of course this is all bloody personal and doesn’t mean it could be the same for anyone else. But I’ve begun to read interviews with and the sort of autobiography you find in books and suchlike of comic artists. Even their use of a word like “comix” is something I’m interested in as a poet.
This connects with a blog post like this, which I relate to strongly as a blogger/writer. I’m seeing myself everywhere. Which I’ve just written a poem about going on a few years ago. Life, I guess.
